A man was rescued yesterday after breaking his leg while visiting a historic castle in Aberdeenshire.

Scottish Ambulance Service alerted the HM Coastguard teams at around 4.15pm yesterday.

Stonehaven along with Montrose Coastguard Rescue Teams headed to Dunnottar Castle to help rescue the visitor, who had fallen over and broke his leg.

A statement on HM Coastguard Angus and Mearns Facebook page reads: “Following risk assement of the location and the condition of the casualty it was decided to utilise HM Coastguard Rescue helicopter 951 and winch the casualty to the castle carpark where he was transferred to a waiting ambulance and conveyed for further treatment at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI).”
