Firefighters battling blaze at vehicle warehouse in Aberdeenshire

Firefighters are battling a blaze in an Aberdeenshire village after a vehicle is believed to have caught alight in an outbuilding.

Police have sealed off part of Rothienorman amid the ongoing emergency, as fire crews fight to get the flames under control.

It is understood that the fire broke out just off the main B9001 road through the village, in a warehouse belonging to a local motorcycle enthusiast, and that there is thought to be an asbestos risk from the roof of the building.

A spokesman for the fire service confirmed that two crews are already at the scene, while another two are en route.

He said: “We got the call at 9.17pm and have appliances from Oldmeldrum and Insch at the scene, and others from Turriff and Inverurie on the way.

“It appears that a vehicle caught fire in an outbuilding, on the main street through the village.”

A police spokesman confirmed that the fire service had requested assistance in setting p a cordon around the area in question.
