No plans have been submitted to the council for a Hogmanay event at Stonehaven for this year but organisers are already looking ahead to 2019 to stage a street party in the town.

Stephen Jackson runs Prestige Entertainment and has requested the use of the Market Square for Hogmanay celebratons next year.

Last night he said that plans were still “in the early stages” but that it would be a “family friendly” event.

Initially submitting a request for Hogmanay 2018, which is due to be discussed at next week’s Kincardine and Mearns area committee, Mr Jackson said he had now amended the application and the year of the proposed event due to “several factors”.

Chairman of the local community council, Phil Mills Bishop, said he was disappointed to hear that no plans had been submitted to the council yet for this year.

He said: “Whether it is a local group organising a disco or another big headliner the community council will support it as long as it is integrated with the fireballs festival. For me, that is the main draw for the town at New Year.”

Thousands of people are expected to attend the annual fireballs event, which sees dozens of participants’ parade along the street swinging homemade balls of fire before hurling them into the harbour to mark the start of the New Year.

Famous bands have also been playing in the coastal town at the Hogmanay bash drawing in huge numbers of visitors in recent years.

There was no muscial event held last year, despite Glasgow-based company Two Presentations Ltd having been granted permission to use Market Square.

Co-owner of the firm, Keith Montgomery, said he had been unable to secure a headline act for the event.
