Forecasters have warned that strong winds and blizzards will continue to batter the north-east into next week.
Last night the Met Office said there would be “no change” into today with an amber weather warning in place until 10am.
From there, a yellow warning will be in place past midnight and into tomorrow morning, with snow showers continuing to be blown in from the North Sea.
A brisk easterly wind will heighten the chill in the air, with temperatures at just 1-2C for much of the day.
The picture will remain the same throughout tomorrow (Sat) but forecasters have said the snow might not be so heavy and frequent as it has been the past few days.
And the mercury in the thermometers is likely to rise slightly to 3C at certain points during the day.
On Sunday, the Met Office has said it is a case of “spot the difference” with the brisk winds continuing and a snow and ice warning in place.
Blizzards will become slightly less heavy, with highs of 3C, but night-time temperatures will plummet to -2 and -3 meaning ice and frost are likely to set in.
While the wintry weather will remain in place into next week but the air temperature will rise slightly meaning rain and sleet could move in as Monday progresses.
