Councillors have backed a major house builder’s masterplan for a coastal village.
Last summer, Barratt Scotland submitted plans for Newtonhill with a view to building potentially hundreds of homes in the village in the future.
The idea behind the proposal was to establish a policy for considering any future developments on the site.
However the firm was forced to go back to the drawing board after the Kincardine and Mearns committee rejected the plan.
Last month, the developer came back with fresh proposals for the site, which had a number of alterations.
The developer had removed indicative housing numbers, which had been for 131 homes.
The revised plans also realigned the southern edge of the scheme to comply with the green belt boundary.
Barratt also made assurances that access onto land owned by Mains of Monduff Farm, which falls within the master plan site, had been agreed with the farmer.
Councillor Ian Mollison, North Kincardine ward and Newtonhill resident, said: “In principle I feel uneasy about further development in the village, but in practical terms this is an area of development in the local development plan.
“The developer has made changes that this committee has requested. I still have doubts about the road design but I believe that is following guidelines set by the Scottish Government, so I will have to suck it up as they say.”
The plan was given unanimous approval.
