A decision on a key aspect of the expansion of a north-east business park has been delayed.
ANM Group was given permission to expand its Thainstone site, home to the region’s biggest mart, almost a year ago.
The decision was made by the Scottish Government on appeal after Aberdeenshire Council rejected the plan.
Yesterday, the authority’s Garioch area committee met to discuss landscaping, drainage and transport access to the site.
One of the proposals on the table was for the historic Camie’s Stone to be moved to the north-west of the site, next to the mart.
The standing stone reputedly marks the spot where the leader of an invading army of Danes died.
However Matthew Watt, planning officer, revealed during the meeting that it was unlikely that the location was historically accurate.
East Garioch councillor Martin Ford also questioned whether the stone should be moved so far away if the significance attached to it was based on its location.
Mr Ford also suggested that officers should explore whether a foot bridge over the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road to help people walk between the two sites.
A number of councillors also raised concerns about the long-term provision of public transport to the site, with a shuttle bus currently proposed until an agreement can be reached to divert an existing Stagecoach service.
Mr Ford tabled a motion calling for the decision to be deferred to allow planning officers to hold discussions with ANM Group on these issues.
The motion was approved by committee.
