AWPR road closure at Stonehaven

Though the opening date hasn’t been announced, it is expected to be any time soon.
Though the opening date hasn’t been announced, it is expected to be any time soon.

Traffic will be diverted through Stonehaven during the closure of a section of the northbound A90 Dundee to Aberdeen road this weekend.

The overnight closure will see the installation of a new variable message sign for motorists.

The closure will be enforced from around 10pm on Saturday May 26 until 6am the following morning.

The A90 southbound slip road will remain open while the A90 northbound carriageway closure is in place.

There will also be no access to the northbound A90 from Glasslaw Junction or Spurryhillock Junction during this time.

Diversions will be sign-posted. Road users intending to travel north on the A90 should leave the A90 at Glasslaw Junction onto the A92, known locally as the Coast Road (Dunfermline to Stonehaven Road), then turn left onto the A957 and travel through Stonehaven via Dunnottar Avenue, Bridgefield, Allardice Street, David Street and the B979 Netherley Road where they can re-join the A90 northbound at the new roundabout.

Road users intending to travel north on the A90 from Spurryhillock Junction should instead take Broomhill Road, Kirkton Road, Arduthie Road, Evan Street, turn left onto Allardice Street, David Street and the B979 Netherley Road where they can join the A90 northbound at the new roundabout.

Access to the northbound A90 from the B979 Netherley Road will be unaffected.

A Transport Scotland spokesman said: “The contractor has arranged for this closure to take place overnight to ensure that inconvenience to road users kept to a minimum.

“While these works are underway, we ask drivers to observe all of the signage and speed limits that are in place to enhance the safety of pedestrians, road users and road workers.”
