A motorcyclist has been charged after being caught driving at 109mph in Aberdeenshire.

Police caught the 37-year-old man on the 60mph limit B979 Netherley Road yesterday. He will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal and will appear in court at a later date.

Officers are warning about the dangers of speeding after also stopped a car at 89mph and a van, which is restricted to 50mph, at 84mph.

The 19-year-old male car driver and the 47-year-old male van driver have been charged and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Special constable Linda Still, who assisted with the operation, said: “It goes without saying that a collision at these speeds would have catastrophic consequences.

“With the school holidays approaching we know that this is typically a time when roads are busier with cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians.

“We are supporting the vulnerable road users’ campaign to encourage people to be more aware of increased traffic and people using the roads.

“Please slow down, respect the safety of other road users and if you’re tempted to speed then think about what the consequences of your decision could be. Please also be aware that on rural roads there can be animals such as deer.”

Anyone who has concerns about excessive speed on antisocial driving is advised to call 101 with as much detail as possible including make, model and colour of cars.
