Peterhead man appears in court accused of raping two women in Aberdeenshire

A Peterhead man appeared in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow today accused of raping two women.

Brian Gillies, 60, of the town’s Skene Street, has also been charged with a string of other offences.

Gillies is also accused of abducting one of his alleged rape victims at a house in Fraserburgh on an occasion between October 1 and December 31, 1993 and repeatedly punching her on the head rendering her unconscious and pushing her on the body causing her to fall down the stairs to her severe injury.

He is also charged with on another occasion in Fraserburgh between February 19, 1996 and August 6, 2017, striking his victim’s head against a sink.

Gillies faces four charges of raping this woman on occasions between 1989 and 2017.

He is accused of raping the other woman at an address in Aberdeenshire on July 3, 2017.

Gillies is also charged with making sexual remarks to two other women.

In total, he faces 12 separate charges which are alleged to have been committed between January 1989 and July 2017.

Defence QC David Moggach said: “The defence is prepared for trial.”

Prosecutor Margaret Barron said that the trial is expected to last five days.

Judge Lord Ericht told Gillies his trial will be scheduled for August 28 at the High Court in Aberdeen.
