A thief who broke into an Aberdeenshire home and stole money was caught by police after they found his fingerprints at the scene.
Jordan Morrison targeted a property in Laurencekirk last summer, forcing his way through the gap in a window left narrowly open.
Once inside, the 20-year-old took some tobacco from a pouch as well as £800 he found within an envelope.
It was not until the following morning that the owner became aware what had happened and phoned the police.
Officers noticed the window had been forced open and took fingerprints from it and the envelope which Morrison had left behind.
They caught up with him several months later and detained him in connection with the incident.
When interviewed he claimed to have been in the property at a later date but denied carrying out the robbery on August 16 last year .
At Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, however, he confessed to the crime. The court also heard he had two previous convictions for theft.
Sheriff William Summers deferred sentence on Morrison, of High Street in Arbroath, in order to obtain reports.
He will return to court next month.
