The Cairngorms National Park Authority (CPNA) has appointed a new deputy convener of the Board, as well as a new planning committee deputy convener.

The move follows the departure of Brian Wood and Gordon Riddler respectively.

The CNPA Board meeting was held in Grantown-on-Spey last week where members voted for the new deputies.

Aberdeenshire councillor, Geva Blackett, has stepped into the role of deputy convener of the board. And fellow Shire member, Peter Argyle, has taken on the role of planning committee deputy convener.

Speaking at the meeting, CNPA Board convener Xander McDade congratulated the new deputies.

He said: “I am delighted to have Geva as Deputy Convener of the Board and look forward to working closely with her, and Peter Argyle will do an excellent job in the role of deputy planning committee convener, supporting Eleanor Mackintosh.

“They both bring considerable experience to the roles.”

Ms Blackett added: “I feel very honoured and humbled to have been elected by my fellow board members as the first directly elected and the first female Cairngorms National Park Authority Deputy Convener.

Xander McDade was elected as convener of the Cairngorms National Park Authority in September

“Xander and I will work inclusively with the rest of the board, officers, partners and communities to ensure a national park for all, with bountiful wildlife and secure communities that achieve all our statutory aims.

“There is nowhere else like the Cairngorms; the park is a very special place.”
