Plans for 500 homes and school unveiled at north-east coastal village

Millden West near Balmedie, a few miles from the proposed Trump Estate, where developers are proposing to building 500 homes and also a new school.

Hundreds of new homes could be created at a coastal village – just a few miles from the proposed Trump Estate.

Should the vision be approved, it would lead to 500 homes and a new primary school being built on land previously occupied by East Aberdeenshire Golf Course, at Millden, near Balmedie.

At least 25% of the properties would be classed as affordable, amounting to 125 homes, with shops, businesses, playing fields and other leisure facilities also proposed.

The scheme is being moved forward by a developer known as West Balmedie Estate.

It is not clear who is involved with the developer, but the application has been submitted on their behalf by David Murray Associates, an Aberdeen firm of architects.

The developer claims the Millden area is the “prime” location for expanding Balmedie.

It has apparently discounted other sites to the north of the village that do not have direct access to the A90 Aberdeen to Fraserburgh road, forcing traffic onto the Old Aberdeen Road.

A spokesman for the firm said: “The local community council has already expressed serious concerns regarding such a prospect which would take Balmedie back to the position it was in many years ago, before the bypass was built to resolve the traffic impact problem.”

Controversial Trump Estate plans attract global interest

The firm also claims the primary school would address an “urgent” need for school spaces in the local area.

There are a number of developments on the table for Balmedie and the surrounding area.

The most high profile is the planned Trump Estate, at Menie, which lays out a plan for more than 500 homes.

A consultation event on the Millden plans will take place in the Palomino Lounge at the White Horse Inn on Thursday January 31, between 4-8pm.

A spokesman for the firm added: “The development team hope to see a good turn out at this event and welcome all interested residents to learn more about the proposal and to express any views that will be carefully considered as the development proposal evolves.”
