Video: Heavy-duty forklift used used to steal cash machine from Scotmid store in north-east village

Police in the north-east have launched a public appeal following the break-in and theft of a cash machine from a Scotmid store using a heavy-duty forklift in the early hours of this morning.

Officers were alerted to the incident at the Craigour Road store in Torphins at around 1.30am.

The B993 and the A980 were closed while officers carried out their investigation.

The ATM machine was recovered nearby.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen any vehicles or people in the area in the early hours of the morning, or anyone who has noticed suspicious activity in the past few days.

Detective Inspector Fionnuala McPhail said: “Inquiries are at an early stage and I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to get in touch.

“Local road closures and cordons are in place whilst initial Inquiries are carried out and I would like to thank the local community for their patience whilst officers carry out their investigation.
