A pensioner collapsed and died on an Aberdeenshire street.
A busy road in Ellon was sealed off for more than four hours following the “distressing” incident, which involved an elderly man.
Emergency services, including the fire brigade, police and the ambulance service, were called to the scene at about 9.20am following reports of the man’s collapse near the McDonald Golf Club.
Despite efforts of paramedics, the man could not be saved and died on the street.
The road was reopened to traffic at about 2pm.
The force said they were still investigating the full nature of the incident but understood that there were no suspicious circumstances.
A police spokeswoman said: “We are working to trace next of kin but it doesn’t appear there were any suspicious circumstances.
“We responded to reports that an elderly man had collapsed in Ellon at around 9.20am.
“He has since sadly passed away. We were on the scene interviewing witnesses.”
A fire service spokeswoman said: “The appliance from Ellon attended the incident. We were just asked to help with assisting the police.”
Ellon and district SNP councillor Richard Thomson said he would be thinking of the pensioner’s family following his death.
He said: “This is obviously a very sad and distressing thing to have happened.
“My own thoughts right now and I’m sure those of the whole Ellon community are with the gentleman concerned and his friends and family.”
