Former pupils of an Aberdeenshire school have been sharing their mementos for a special open day this week.

Mackie Academy will mark its 50th anniversary on Friday.

The school will be decorated with old photographs and the donated items and visitors will be able to take a tour with current students.

They will also be able to view the new house logos in the main hall, which have been designed by S6 pupil Lewis King.

Earlier this year an appeal went out to former pupils to share their fond memories with the Slug Road school.

Head teacher Louise Moir said they have had a good response to the appeal and had a received a “real range”.

She said: “In the final week of the summer term we had a steady flow of people who brought in items from their time at Mackie Academy.  In addition to this, Aberdeenshire Archives are providing us with information that they have including the original plans for the school which people will be able to see on the day.

“The open day is the first event of the year to celebrate 50 years at Slug Road and we are looking forward to welcoming people who may wish to come in and see the mementos as well as take a tour around the school with our junior house captains. In a couple of weeks we are looking to do a whole school photograph and other events are planned for later in the year.”

The open day takes place on Friday with tours running every half hour except for over lunch from 12.30pm-1.30pm.
