Aberdeenshire doctor’s surgery closing its doors for good following staffing woes

A north-east doctor’s surgery has been forced to close due to a lack of staff.

The Methlick branch surgery of the Haddo Medical Group was closed on a temporary basis in December, to alleviate pressure on the hard-pressed employees there.

Yesterday it was announced the building’s doors would remain shut for good.

Dr Fiona Munro, executive partner at the Haddo Medical Group, said the decision had been “difficult” but the “right one”.

She said: “The closure has meant that we have been able to consolidate our services at the main site, which means that we are better able to continue offering a safe and secure service for all of our patients.”

Kimberley Menzies, location manager for Ellon and Haddo, added: “The local health and social care team have been working closely with the practice and local community groups to look at ways we can support the Methlick community following the closure of the branch surgery.

“We held a public event earlier in the year where residents were able to come along to let us know about the impact of the closure on them and offer suggestions.”

Methlick residents will now have to access all appointments at the main branch of the Haddo Medical Group at the Pitmedden Surgery on the village’s Tarves Road.

A public drop-in session will be held on Monday between 4pm and 7pm at the Beaton Hall, Methlick.
