A rare SAS belt, cap and badge will go up for auction in the north-east this week.

The Special Air Service is famed the world over for its efficiency in high-risk operations and has served as the basis for many other country’s special forces.

An intriguing array of items relating to the organisation are expected to command a price of several hundreds of pounds when they are sold off at Bervie Auctions in Inverbervie on Wednesday.

Auctioneer Dave Smith said: “It is always nice to come across such unusual items.

“The SAS is an elite regiment and very few of these belts would have been issued.”

The collection of special forces memorabilia also came with an SAS Christmas card from when the 22nd Special Air Service Regiment moved to their current home in Hereford, England, in 1960.

But most of the lots are dated between 10 and 15 years of the elite unit’s inception in 1941.
