Police launched an investigation in an Aberdeenshire town after a man was found with serious injuries.

Officers and paramedics were called to Mosside Crescent in Portlethen at 9.20pm on Tuesday, and there remained a large police presence in the area yesterday.

A spokeswoman for the force said a 33-year-old man had been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, and that inquiries were ongoing to “establish the cause of the injuries” he suffered.

But she added that there are “thought to be no suspicious circumstances”.

Yesterday, residents spoke of their shock at seeing police and ambulances roll into the quiet street.

One said: “There was a raft of officers yesterday and forensic teams today, but we really don’t know what happened.

“There were two ambulances until late into the night, and there’s been people back and forth today.”

A police officer remained outside a home yesterday.

A neighbour said they saw an injured man being “lifted out” of a property late on Tuesday night.

She added: “The chap is a really nice bloke.”

A police spokeswoman said: “We received a report of a 33-year-old male who suffered serious injuries at around 9.20pm on Tuesday.

“He was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and inquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the injuries.
