The latest phase of path improvements in Deeside have been completed.

The Banchory Paths Association has upgraded the paths at Corsee Woods, their biggest project in their 20-year history.

Two paths have been rebuilt, which the group hope will make the area more accessible.

Already they are proving popular, with people getting out for fresh air over the festive break.

Project officer David Culshaw said: “It has been most gratifying to see so many people using the new paths over the festive season and in particular to see many users with impaired mobility now able to use them.”

The £30,000 project, which took four weeks to complete, was sponsored by the National Lottery, Banchory Community Council, Marr Area Large Projects, Paths fro All, King George V Wind Farm, Shell UK, Tesco Bags of Help and Coop.

The group is already working on its next project with Aberdeenshire Council to improve the path from Banchory’s Woodside Road to Wilson Road.

The team of volunteers have started some of the preparatory work, including cutting back vegetation and initial spadework. A contractor will be drafted in for surfacing and drainage improvements in the coming weeks.
