Work has begun on the creation of a modern new nursery in Portlethen.
Children at Fishermoss Nursery were previously taught within two ageing Portakabins in the grounds of Fishermoss Primary School, but are now looking forward to some improved surroundings.
The council decided that bringing the existing properties to a “decent standard” would be too costly, and instead opted to lodge plans to create a brand new nursery.
Last spring, Kincardine and Mearns area committee approved the proposal to replace the existing temporary accommodation at Fishermoss School with the new permanent building.
Planning permission was granted in October and the contract was awarded to Morrison Construction, who began work on the facility this week.
The new building has been created in preparation for delivering the Scottish Government’s commitment to increase annual nursery entitlement from 600 hours to 1,140 hours from August.
