Special patrols will be staged near an Aberdeenshire primary school next week following concerns about poor driving.
The crackdown at Westhill Primary will feature assemblies, community road safety drop-in sessions and school car park patrols.
Organised by Aberdeenshire Council, the police, the school and its parent council, the week-long event will begin on Monday, January 27.
A statement from Aberdeenshire council said members of the parent council will carry out patrols of the school car park and drop-off and pick-up times to “monitor driving standards and provide helpful advice to motorists”.
Ewan Wallace, the head of transportation at Aberdeenshire Council, said: “I am delighted to see yet another fine example of partnership working between ourselves, local schools and the police to deliver the road safety message in our communities.
“The safety of everyone in our communities is of paramount importance and by working together with our schools and the wider community we are able to raise awareness and ensure our children remain safe at all times.”
As part of the initiative, teachers will also be delivering road safety messages in the classroom and sending the safety campaign home by including it in homework.
The pupils will also get the chance to enter a competition to design a road safety banner, with the winning entry displayed outside the school to promote the message to passing motorists.
