A north-east community is celebrating after plans to create a new skate park were approved.
The Banchory Skatepark Group (BSG) has been working tirelessly to raise funds and gather support for the development at the town’s Bellfield Park.
The idea began with local man Russ Crichton, who was unhappy at the state of the town’s rusty steel ramp.
He rallied a group of like-minded people together and submitted ambitious plans to Aberdeenshire Council, which have now been approved.
The council stated in their decision: “The principle of a skate park in this location is accepted through the existing, small ramp skate park.
“The proposal aims to replace this facility with a larger, more technical and designed-for-purpose skate park.
“The location is evidently suitable through the popularity of the existing ramp and desire for it to be upgraded and increased in scale.
“Furthermore, while the skatepark would be of particular interest to younger members of the community, the skatepark would be open to all members of the community.”
On Facebook, BSG has now launched a fundraiser to begin their large concrete skate park, complete with new ramps and floodlights.
The entire project is likely to cost £240,000 – with 25% of that raised already.
