Six other people who were on board were taken to hospital, but their injuries were not believed to be serious.
British Transport Police, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch and inspectors from the Office of Rail and Road – the independent regulator – are involved in the investigation.
The images show investigators examining the wreckage, with the line still completely blocked.
In one of the images the front car can be seen down the embankment and at rest against fire-damaged trees.
