Man, 18, dies in one-car crash near St Fergus

The scene of the fatal crash on the A90 near St Fergus.

A teenager has died and another is in critical condition following a horrific crash on a north-east road.

The one-car crash, involving a red Ford Fiesta, on the A90 Fraserburgh to Peterhead road between Crimmond and St Fergus gas terminal was reported at about 7.30am.

The 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene with a 19-year-old man taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. He remains in a critical condition.

Police have said there were no other people in the vehicle.

The vehicle left the road and came to rest down an embankment.

A collision investigation is currently being carried out and the road has remained closed.

Two road ambulances, an air ambulance and a trauma team were dispatched to the scene.

Police have now launched an appeal for information or dashcam footage of the vehicle.

Sergeant Chris Smith, of the road policing unit, said: “Our thoughts and sympathies remain with the family of the man who lost his life, as well as with the other young man who has been seriously injured.

“Our inquiries into the cause of the collision are continuing and I would ask anyone who saw anything to contact police as soon as possible.

“We believe the red Ford Fiesta may have travelled on the A90 Peterhead to Fraserburgh road at some point yesterday and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen it.

“I would also ask motorists who used the A90 anytime between yesterday evening (Sunday October, 4) and 7.30am this morning (Monday October, 5) who may have seen the red Fiesta or who may have been recording on dash-cam devices to check their systems and provide any relevant footage to us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
