An Aberdeenshire farmer who died in an industrial accident on his 49th birthday left a £3million estate, it has emerged.

David Leslie was killed as he picked up a load from a grain merchant’s yard.

It is understood something fell on him causing fatal injuries.

Police, fire and ambulance crews and the Health and Safety Executive were called to the grain mill in Drumlithie in March last year but Mr Leslie could not be saved.

His heartbroken family, including his 91-year-old father, Pat, who lived with him at Blairton Farm, near Balmedie, paid tribute to him on his death.

They said: “David was a truly genuine person who had a bubbly and infectious personality.”

Mr Leslie’s will shows he had an estate worth £2,823,244.03 when he died.

The bulk of his wealth was held in farmland worth £2.5million. He left the bulk of his estate to his family but did leave tractors and cash gifts to family friends.

Mr Leslie left school at 16 to study an agricultural course before working full time on the family farm with his father. He took control of the business a number of years later.
