An Aberdeenshire graduate was celebrating yesterday after being named the “most distinguished” student in his class.
Benjamin Mitchell, from Huntly, became the first member of his family to graduate when he picked up a first class degree in accountancy at Elphinstone Hall.
The 22-year-old, who went to The Gordon Schools in the north-east town, was also handed an extra honour – the Davidson Price award – in recognition of the hard-work and dedication he put in over the last four years.
He was watched by his proud mother, Sandra, and other family members who had travelled from as far as Fort William to be part of his special day.
His mother said: “He has worked so hard. He deserves this.”
Mr Mitchell originally started a management degree, but switched to accountancy when he completed a module on the topic and thoroughly enjoyed it.
“The best thing has been meeting so many great people from different cultures and backgrounds,” he said.
“The relentless studying was hard at times, but it has been a once in a lifetime experience.
“I’m not sure what I want to do with my degree yet, but there are so many options out there so I’m keeping an open mind.
“The immediate plan will definitely be to celebrate.”
