Plans to build seven homes at an Aberdeenshire golf course have been approved by councillors.

Aberdeenshire Council’s Garioch Area Committee yesterday granted full planning permission for seven homes at Westhill Golf Club following a vote of 6-5.

The club’s first application was thrown out by the committee in June because the plans did not provide affordable housing and because they fell outside the town’s defined boundaries.

The plans have been amended to include two affordable homes and additional tree-planting.

The buildings are now also set to be bungalows following concerns the original two-storey plans would overlook neighbouring gardens.

Westhill Golf Club hope the plans will generate money for them – which recently lost its practice area due to new housing.

Funds raised from selling two small areas of extra land on the development are expected to be used to upgrade the club’s course and facilities including new lockers, toilets and the club entrance.

They are also hoping to open a new practice area and fund enhanced green-keeping facilities with the money raised.

Len Hubert, captain of Westhill Golf Club, said: “We’re delighted our application has been approved by the Garioch Area Committee. We’re pleased our efforts to reshape the application were taken on board.

“The application is moving to the next stage and hopefully we can continue to move forward.”

The plans will go before the council’s Infrastructure Services Committee next year.
