The weather bomb may have caused chaos for the north this week but now the fun begins.

For three ski centres have opened for the first time this winter.

Hundreds of people have flocked to CairnGorm Mountain Ltd, The Lecht and Glenshee to take advantage of the new powder.

Cairngorm has 10 runs open, allowing skiing from the top to the bottom.

The only lift operating is the mountain railway but the resort reported that conditions are good.

The Lecht and Glenshee also have a handful of runs open.

Staff were out at the Lecht from before 6am to clear the car park and local roads, as well as groom the slopes.

Meanwhile, Glencoe Mountain Resort and Nevis Range in Lochaber are hoping to start their season by the end of next week.

The Met Office is forecasting more snow showers overnight and into Saturday. These are expected to become heavier and more prolonged over high ground during the evening and overnight into Sunday.
