The north-east is to be hit with more winter weather this week following two days of snow, sleet, wind, ice and rain.

A Met Office yellow warning for snow comes into effect tomorrow morning and will remain in place until Wednesday.

Conditions are expected to deteriorate tomorrow evening, with heavy snow forecast into Tuesday morning.

It comes as poor road conditions were today blamed after two cars careered off one of the north-east’s busiest roads.

A silver Ford Focus and another unknown vehicle came off the southbound A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road yesterday, near its junction with the A92 Stonehaven to Montrose road.

Police, fire and rescue teams and ambulance crews were all called to the scene just after 8.30am.

A Bear Scotland spokesman said the route had been gritted on Saturday evening, and another was “being carried out at the time of the reported incident”.

He added: “Motorists are advised to drive with caution when low temperatures and snow showers are forecast.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Two cars came off the road just due to the weather, there was no injuries and the cars have been uplifted.

“There was no hold-ups or anything. We were called at 8.40am.”

Three fire crews were also called to the incident.

A fire and rescue spokeswoman said: “We were at the road traffic collision at 8.36am, we had two pumps from Stonehaven and one from Altens. We were just there to make the vehicles safe.”

An ambulance spokeswoman said: “We got the call at 8.35am. We attended but cleared on scene, no one was taken to hospital.”

Elsewhere, on Saturday three people were taken to Huntly’s Jubilee Hospital with minor injuries after a black Toyota Landcruiser collided with a red Mazda 3 on the southbound lane on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road, near Huntly.

Later on in the day, a silver Vauxhall Corsa came off the A920 Ellon to Colpy road, near Oldmeldrum, and ended up in a ditch, while a Renault ended up on its side on the A974 Oldmeldrum to Newmachar road.
