Message in bottle washed up on north east beach goes viral online

An almost 50 year-old bottle containing a secret message has washed up on a north east beach.

Sending a message in a bottle may be one of the oldest forms of communication known to man, however, it was today given a modern twist as the bottle found at Rattray Head went viral online.

Shelley Thomas found the bottle, with message intact inside, during a walk yesterday morning and took to Facebook to try to find the man who wrote the message 44 years ago.

The note was written by a 14-year-old Raymond Davidson from Carlisle 44 years ago and now Ms Thomas is on a mission to track down Raymond in order to reunite him with his bottle.

The message contains an address for Raymond but Ms Thomas is concerned that, after 44 years, he may have moved!

Now, after Ms Thomas posted the story onto the social media site it has been spread far and wide with over 15,000 people ‘sharing’ the story in an attempt to find Raymond Davidson.
