Police launch appeal following north-east hit and run

Police are appealing for information following the incident

Police are appealing for information after a female cyclist was hurt in a hit and run accident on a north-east road.

The woman, who is in her 40s, was struck by a vehicle on the B9119 Westhill to Culter road.

The motorist drove on, leaving the cyclist with minor injuries and a £3,500 repair bill for the damage to her bicycle.

Police yesterday urged witnesses or anyone with information to come forward to help them trace the driver.

And last night one prominent local cyclist said it was “dreadful” to hear that someone could drive on and leave a casualty lying by the road.

Aberdeen man Neil Innes, who organises the Ride the North event every August, added: “It is unbelievable that anybody wouldn’t stop after any accident.

“There is a wider debate about cyclist safety and I think most people who ride a bike would say there is a lot of scope for improvement.

“Cyclists are always going to come off second best.”

The crash happened on Wednesday, June 17, at 4.40pm.

A police spokesman said: “A cyclist was knocked over by a vehicle, causing minor injuries and damage to the pedal cycle valued at a mid-four-figure sum.

“Police are appealing for information from anyone in the area or any of the passers-by that assisted the cyclist.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
