Plans for a multi-million-pound sports centre in Deeside will go on public display this week.
Councillors backed outline proposals for Banchory Sports Village, which will cost in the region of £8.5million, last October.
And now, Aberdeenshire Council has organised a public event where local residents can find out more information about the scheme.
The new complex will feature a six-lane, 25m swimming pool and separate learners’ pool, a four-court sports hall, two squash courts and a fitness suite.
Funding for the project is being shared by Aberdeenshire Council, sportscotland, and developers Bancon Homes.
The centre is part of a larger Bancon development, which would include 90 homes, a care home, and shops.
The proposed venture would be built between Hill of Banchory Primary School and Hill of Banchory West Road.
Meanwhile, community group, Banchory Sports Village, is closing in on a £700,000 fundraising target which will help fund an additional lane in the swimming pool, as well as another squash and sports court.
Last night, John Harding, head of leisure for the authority, encouraged the local community to visit the display.
He said: “Come and see the proposals for a range of high-quality sports facilities for local people, active and successful local sports clubs and visitors to the area, that the council has developed following extensive local consultation.
“The building is a great example of how the council can work with local communities, and we everyone who has contributed to the fundraising initiative and the volunteers who make up Banchory Sports Village.”
The plans have been on the table for a number of years and were formally included on the council’s 15-year capital plan in November.
A report on the new facility will go before the policy and resources committee next month.
Construction is expected to start next year, with work due to be finished by December 2018.
The event will take place at Hill of Banchory School on Thursday, between 3 and 7pm.
