Organisers of an annual fundraising walk through Royal Deeside have unveiled a new route for this year’s event which they hope will make the occasion bigger than ever.

The seventh annual Tartan Trek, organised by Clan Cancer Support, will take a detour next month from its usual course.

The revised nine-mile trail will include several of the historic royal cairns on the estate as well as offering stunning views of the Dee valley from various high points on the way.

Gemma Powell, Clan’s Aberdeenshire area services co-ordinator, said: “The Tartan Trek event has really established itself as a key event for Clan in Deeside and we’re delighted it is back again this year with a brand new route.

“This offers stunning views of the Dee valley and Balmoral Estate itself.”

To accompany the Tartan Trek, there will also be a two-mile Tartan Toddle.

This shorter trek includes a ‘Find Clancy the Mascot’ trail for younger participants as they search for a glimpse of Clan’s official mascot.

This route is also fully accessible by wheelchair and push chair and follows flat, gravel and tarmac roads.

Ms Powell said: “The shorter Tartan Toddle event is designed to encourage those who would like to participate in the event to come along and take their time, enjoy the beautiful scenery, enjoy some gentle exercise and support the charity.

“Clan has been providing services in Deeside for a number of years now and these events are integral to these free support and wellbeing services continuing to be provided within the community.

“If you could join us on the day, whether it is to help raise awareness or funds for Clan, we would be delighted to have you along.”

Entries are open online at www.entrycentral.com/tartantrek or registration forms are available at Clan’s shop in Ballater or at Clan House in Aberdeen.

Entry fees are £8 for the Tartan Trek and £6 for the Tartan Toddle.
