The family of a north-east wedding photographer who required life-saving surgery after a crash on a road near his home have hailed the “amazing” response of his colleagues.
Jonathan Addie, of Bridge of Marnoch, is in a medically-induced coma after his white Peugeot 205 came off the A97 Huntly to Banff road on Tuesday at 6pm.
The incident happened outside the Bognie Arms Hotel, near Huntly, as he travelled from the home where he lives with his girlfriend, Emma Willats, to visit a friend.
The 36-year-old, originally from Aberdeen, had to be cut free following the one-car collision, with police, fire and rescue and ambulance teams all called to the scene.
Passerby, Neil Hustler, was the first to come across Mr Addie and rushed to his aid, sitting with him in the car.
A nurse also ran to his aid after coming across the incident.
Mr Addie – who runs Jonathan Addie Photography – was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with “serious head injuries” and underwent life-saving surgery.
Miss Willats and Mr Addie’s family have been by his bedside in hospital and said his condition is now “stable”.
Following the crash, his fellow wedding photographers from Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire pulled together to honour his work commitments.
Speaking yesterday his sister, Caroline Anderson, said the response from his colleagues across the north-east had been “touching”.
She added: “Jonathan has had surgery to relieve pressure on his brain and is currently in a medically-induced coma. He is in a stable condition at present.
“Jonathan’s whole family and partner would like to thank Neil and the nurse that stopped to help Jonathan after the accident, all the emergency services and the nurses and doctors at accident and emergency and the intensive care unit.
“The family are deeply touched by the work that Jonathan’s fellow photographers within Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are doing to support Jonathan’s business, and by honouring as many of his work commitments as possible.
“The response has been amazing and the family are eternally grateful for the support and kindness shown.”
Fellow north-east photographer, Calum Riddell, said: “Please be assured that the photographers of the north-east are doing all we can to cover Jonathan’s work commitments.
“If we can ask for your patience during this time, we will do our utmost to contact immediate brides and grooms.”
