A Mearns teen who took ill at sea has launched a fundraising campaign to thank those who came to her rescue.
Chloe Green collapsed while out rowing with the sea cadets last summer, and the Stonehaven RNLI was called out to help.
The 17-year-old was transferred to the boat by stretcher, and taken to dry land where an ambulance was waiting to take her to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Now Chloe has organised a sponsored walk from Gourdon to Stonehaven to thank RNLI team.
She said: “I was out training with the sea cadets when I collapsed.
“The night before I hadn’t felt hungry so didn’t eat anything, so when I went out the next day I fell unconscious for 20 minutes which is when the RNLI were called out to help.
“They then put me on a stretcher and took me to land where I was met by an ambulance to take me to hospital.”
Chloe’s fundraiser is part of an initiative being run at North East Scotland College (Nes Col) in Aberdeen.
The teenager, of Stonehaven, said: “Everyone has to do a fundraiser so you pick a charity that is close to you and raise as much as you can.
“Lots of people are doing stalls at college but I decided on doing the walk after my sister came up with the idea.”
She has already raised nearly £200, and is now hoping to raise as much as she can for the RNLI after seeing firsthand the work they do.
“I feel that the RNLI are a great cause and a great charity,” Chloe said. “They enjoy what they do, they always want to help people which I think is so important in our society – to know that if you’re out at sea you always have someone to rely on.
“Whilst it has been quite a lot of work organising the walk it has definitely been worth it, I really want to raise as much money as I can for this charity and for all the great work they do and the great help that they were to me.
“They have helped so many people and I hope the whole community will get behind me in raising money for them.”
