Rare cars to go on show at north-east festival

Last years How Many Left? event attracted over 100 vehicles

An Aberdeenshire museum is staging a unique event, featuring many of the world’s rarest cars, in a showcase of vehicles on the edge of extinction.

The How Many Left? festival will be held at the Grampian Transport Museum on Sunday, May 22, with motoring enthusiasts from as far afield as the south of England making the journey.

This marks a reprise for the event, which proved one of the most popular on the GTM’s calendar last year.

The show puts the spotlight on those vehicles which are on the verge of becoming obsolete and the people who work tirelessly to salvage and restore them to working order.

Vehicles already confirmed for this year’s How Many Left? include an Opel Commodore A Coupe, a Lotus Esprit S1 and an ex-Polish Army UAZ-469 off-road military vehicle.

A large number of trade stands will be set up on the day to allow car enthusiasts to trade parts and products for their vehicles.

Marketing and events organiser for the GTM, Martyn Smith, said: “We were thinking about cars that people haven’t seen for a while and decided to arrange an event about the cars that have almost disappeared.

“Classic car shows are great, but this isn’t like that. These aren’t immaculate aspirational cars, these are cars that people maybe learned to drive in that will take people back a few years.

“We did this last year, it was a great event where people had an excellent time, and there were over 100 cars, so we’re hoping this year will be bigger and better than before.

“These cars have a bit of personality and are cars that people just have a soft spot towards.

“In 2015, it was just a magical event, everyone was reminiscing, everyone getting a bit nostalgic and we hope to recreate that atmosphere again this year.”
