North-east charities to reap benefits of beer festival

The Midsummer Beer Happening is back in Stonehaven next month, and tickets are going fast.
The Midsummer Beer Happening is back in Stonehaven next month, and tickets are going fast.

Three north-east charities will be saying cheers to thousands of ale lovers after an annual beer festival next month.

The Midsummer Beer Happening will be held in Stonehaven’s Baird Park on June 16-18.

Each year, organisers nominate three charities to benefit from the hugely popular event – with this year’s being unveiled as Stonehaven Sea Cadets, Home Start Kincardine and Mackie FP Rugby Football Club’s youth development programme.

Robert Lindsay, organiser of the Midsummer Beer Happening, said: “We are a not-for-profit event and firmly believe that the money we raise here in Stonehaven should stay here in Stonehaven to benefit local good causes.

“The three charities we are supporting this year all do so much work to support young people and families in the town, and further afield, and they deserve all the help they can get.

“So the thousands of people coming to the Happening at midsummer will not only have a good time, but know they will be doing good for others while they are enjoying themselves.”

Cate Garrow, senior co-ordinator with Home-Start Kincardine, said: “The support of the festival – and all the people enjoying it – will be a massive boost for our work.

“We are a local charity which supports young families in the Kincardine and Mearns with at least one child under five years old.

“We are there for families when they need us – and the backing of the Midsummer Beer Happening will help us be there.”
