Local residents in a north-east town were left shocked and concerned yesterday after flash-floods struck the area.
Many parts of the region are just recovering from the ravages wrought by Storm Frank, but fire crews and police were alerted to flooding in Inverurie at around 2.35pm.
Properties in areas including North Street and Charles Gardens were affected by the flash floods, with parts of the former remaining closed last night.
Residents voiced concerns at the lack of defences to stem the onrush of water, especially given the soul-searching which has gone on since the winter.
One of them, whose front door was only metres away from the flooding, declared it was “a big worry” to see how quickly the road had become flooded.
Sarah Watt said: “I went out this morning and everything was fine, then I came back to find this so close to my door step, and it’s a big worry.
“It’s not like we had constant rain today like we did in January, it just appeared after a few hours, so I’ll be worried if the rain starts again.
“I didn’t see the signs being put up, but I thought somebody might have come to help me get rid of the water.
“I do feel more could still be done to prevent things like this happening. If it had been any worse, it could have reached the houses and who knows when the road will reopen again?”
Another local resident, Martha White, said: “I am not as concerned as some of the other residents, because I am a bit further off the street.
“But I am annoyed that, after the floods in January, this looks like a drainage issue.
“You would think with the weather changing so much that this would be a priority for the council.
“It’s also not really fair to have this kind of concern all the time.
“It could have been much worse, it happened very quickly today which isn’t great.”
