Liverpool drug courier was making £2,000 a day selling heroin and cocaine in the Highlands

A Liverpool drug dealer was making up to £2,000 a day selling drugs in the Highlands with the help of an Inverness man, a court heard yesterday.

Police investigating organised drugs gangs were watching Gavin MacBeath and his former co-accused Cory Gibson in February 2017.

They saw MacBeath, of Bridgeview Drive, Inverness, coming and going from a house in the city’s Jamaica Court with several known drug users.

And Inverness Sheriff Court heard Gibson was inside when drug handovers were being carried out by MacBeath.

When police moved in, they also raided a house in nearby Nelson Street where Gibson was then located. He ran off, throwing away a bag containing £5,360-£6,660 worth of heroin and cocaine.

Fiscal depute Michelle Molley said that MacBeath was still in Jamaica Court and told police that there was “fake heroin in the kitchen.”

A bag was recovered, containing a mixture of paracetamol and caffeine, which is used to dilute diamorphine but maintain its street value.

MacBeath later told police he was paid £50 worth of heroin a day if he allowed a member of the Liverpool drugs gang to use his house to sell heroin and cocaine.

He also admitted helping to split the drugs into deals, handing them over to customers and then giving the money to Gibson.

In March this year, 21-year-old Gibson was jailed for 18 months at Inverness Sheriff Court for dealing in the two Class A narcotics.

Yesterday, the court heard that he was making up to £2,000-a-day selling drugs in the north.

Yesterday, sentence was deferred on 42-year-old MacBeath, who admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine and heroin, until July 26 for a background report.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald allowed his bail to continue, but warned him: “These are extremely serious charges and all options are open to the court.”
