A drunk woman who threw a lit cigarette and chips into a parked car has been given the chance to show she can behave.
Tracey-Ann Burnett appeared in Peterhead Sheriff Court yesterday having pled guilty to three charged of abusive behaviour and assault.
The 36-year-old had been on a night out on August 19 last year when she came upon a car with two men inside.
Burnett, of Watermill Road, Fraserburgh, then flicked her lit cigarette into the vehicle which was parked on Cross Street in the town.
She also threw some of her chips at the men while they were still in the car.
Procurator fiscal Ruaridh McAllister told the court: “One of the men, Sam Peterson, got out and tried to speak to the accused but she slapped him on the side of the head knocking his glasses off.
“Police then arrived shortly after and the accused was pointed out by the witnesses.
“As officers tried to deal with her she swung out and struck an officer in the head.”
Officer Michael Stone and his colleagues then arrested Burnett and took her to Fraserburgh Police Station.
Burnett’s defence lawyer Marianne Milligan told the court his client accepted full responsibility for her actions.
She said: “She’s a single mum of two children, had been on a night out, drank too much which contributed to her behaviour.
“This was very much out of character for her.”
Sheriff Christine McCrossan felt “extremely concerned” when considering Burnett’s behaviour towards the police officer.
She said: “I take into account how this is totally out of character for you so I will defer sentencing to allow for a chance for good behaviour.
“Then if there are no issues we can deal with this matter appropriately.”
Burnett will appear before the court in July for a review of her behaviour.
