An Aberdeen man has been fined for spying on a woman in her bathroom.
Joe Sudron, 35, admitted causing the woman “fear and alarm” by covertly placing an iPod and a mobile phone inside her house to monitor her activities.
The devices were set up to make “repeated audio recordings” of her while she was in the property.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard yesterday that the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, discovered the first hidden device on May 19 last year.
Fiscal depute Christie Ward said: “She discovered the iPod with audio recordings, and it sounded like it was taken from the bathroom.
“Her embarrassment grew as she listened further.”
She then found a mobile phone that had been also been recording audio from her bathroom.
The court heard that she later discovered video footage of Sudron placing the camera in the shower to make a recording.
Further investigations uncovered audio recordings dating back to February 2018.
Police were then called and officers noticed that the woman was “visibly shaken and upset” while explaining the circumstances.
One of the audio files revealed that she was watching a programme on her tablet in the bath.
Police seized both devices and arrested Sudron.
When questioned, he had “no logical answer” as to why he placed the recording devices in the bathroom rather than bedroom.
Defence agent Ian Woodward- Nutt said his client suffered from anxiety related issues.
He said: “He deeply regrets his behaviour.”
Sheriff Andrew Millar described the circumstances of the case as “unusual” and fined him £500.
He said: “This was distressing for her but I believe you are unlikely to behave like this again.
“It is a serious matter, but slightly unusually I can deal with this by imposing a fine.”
