A dangerous driver with an “appalling record” has been banned for six years and jailed after leading police on a high-speed chase through Aberdeen.
Ricky Davidson yesterday admitted driving recklessly and at excessive speeds, without insurance and while disqualified, and failing to stop for police.
Fiscal depute Alison Reid told Aberdeen Sheriff Court that Davidson had been spotted driving a silver car with no lights on Stronsay Drive in Aberdeen at about 4.20am on August 19 this year.
Officers tried to pull the 28-year-old over, but he refused to stop and led them on a chase through the area, hitting speeds of up to 50mph on roads including Lang Stracht, Mastrick Road, Provost Rust Drive and Byron Avenue.
Although police failed to stop him that day, he was arrested the following month.
Defence solicitor Graham Morrison said his client has a “fascination” with cars, and added he “deeply regrets” the incident.
Sheriff Andrew Miller said: “You have an appalling record for crimes involving driving, or offences that in one way or another involve vehicles.
“You have three prior convictions for dangerous driving, and multiple prior convictions for driving while disqualified, and you were on bail at the time of the offence.”
Davidson, whose address was given as HMP Grampian, was jailed for 16 months and given a six-year driving ban.
