Furious woman trashed ex’s car when she found out he was going on holiday despite owing her money

A woman “snapped” and smashed up her former partner’s car when she discovered he was going on holiday to Turkey despite owing her money for child maintenance.

Rachel Duncan, 23, “lost composure” and smashed the windows of his vehicle after discovering he was about to jet off abroad.

She then breached a condition not to approach the man less than 24 hours later by turning up at his home in Aberdeen with a hammer.

Her solicitor told Aberdeen Sheriff Court that Duncan had “lost her composure”.

Duncan pleaded guilty to one charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and striking the man’s car with an unknown implement.

She admitted a second charge of breaching a bail condition by attending at the man’s address and a final charge of being in possession of a hammer.

Accused was found again at man’s home 24 hours later

Fiscal depute Andrew McMann told the court that on April 24 this year Duncan had video-called her former partner on WhatsApp to discuss money when she saw him packing a bag.

When he informed her he was going on holiday she flew into a rage and “threatened to attend at the complainer’s address and smash up his vehicle and his friend’s face,” Mr McMann said.

“She contacted him for the rest of the night saying she would attend at his address.

“At around 9.10pm she did turn up at his home and was observed to be in possession of an unknown object.

“She then smashed the front-side window and windscreen of his vehicle.”

Duncan was arrested by police and later released under the condition that she stay away from the man.

However, less than 24 hours later she was found by police outside his home with a hammer.

‘She lost her composure’

Defence agent Stuart Murray told the court that Duncan “accepts that her behaviour in relation to this offence is appalling”.

He added: “She saw that he was packing a bag and was going on an undisclosed holiday to Turkey.

“This caused her to snap. She lost her composure.

“Miss Duncan has never been in trouble before and she doesn’t want to be seen in this court again.”

Sheriff Morag McLaughlin deferred sentence on Duncan, of Newburgh Road, Bridge of Don, in order for a criminal justice social work report to be carried out.
