Three men have appeared in court charged with nine alleged offences following a police chase through Aberdeen that ended with a crash.
The trio were arrested on Thursday when a car reportedly failed to stop after the police attempted to pull over whoever was driving it.
A pursuit along the city’s University Road in Old Aberdeen to Fountainhall Road ensued around 2.25pm that day.
However, shortly afterwards, a blue Renault Clio lost control, coming off the road at the junction with Queens Lane North and colliding with a signpost.
Three men, who were later charged with road traffic offences and theft of a car, appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court today.
The men who were arrested have been named along with details of their charges
John McKeand, 38, whose address was given as the Aberdeen area, is accused of:
- Stealing a car.
- Failing to stop for the police.
- Driving dangerously.
- Driving without insurance.
- Driving while disqualified.
- Failing to provide a specimen to test for the presence of either alcohol or drugs.
- Attempting to pervert the course of justice.
He made no plea, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody to reappear in the dock within the next eight days.
One man remains in custody but the other two were released on bail
Two other men, who also live in Aberdeen, each face a single charge of knowingly riding in a stolen vehicle.
Lee Jarvie, 31, and 44-year-old Okechukwu Ezeibieli, just like McKeand, made no plea during Friday’s short hearing.
However, unlike McKeand, they were both granted bail after being committed for further examination.
A date for Jarvie and Ezeibieli to reappear is still to be confirmed.
Bystanders spoke to The Press and Journal at the time of witnessing the car chase, describing it as “terrifying” because the area is often busy with children present.
Up to five police vehicles were seen tailing the Clio, and residents reported seeing armed officers at the scene.
