Woman ran in front of police vehicle, made death threat and assaulted officers

Lianne Cooper made a police vehicle brake harshly when she ran into it's path. When officers got out she assaulted them, telling one: "I'm going to kill you".

A woman ran into the path of a police vehicle, then assaulted officers and threatened to kill them.

The incident came months after Lianne Cooper had assaulted two other police officers.

Her solicitor told the court she had been “struggling” with her circumstances at the time of the crimes.

Cooper appeared at Tain Sheriff Court to admit three charges of assaulting police officers, one of threatening or abusive behaviour and one of resisting arrest by struggling violently with officers.

The 22-year-old also appeared for sentencing on a separate assault charge, which she had previously been convicted of following a trial.

Officers spotted woman in road

Narrating the charges to which the guilty pleas were entered at the hearing, fiscal depute Anna Boyle explained that in the early hours of February 2 police officers on mobile patrol on Obsdale Road in Alness noticed a female “struggling” in the road.

They initially went to check on her welfare, but after comments about drugs, Cooper was searched.

She then pushed an officer, causing her to be restrained against the vehicle.

She pulled against officers and was taken to the ground but, as she was later loaded into a police vehicle, she kicked out at two officers, making contact with their body armour.

On April 5 of this year, police received a call at around 9.30pm reporting a concern for an intoxicated woman in a park.

Shortly after this, Cooper ran across Alness’ High Street, into the path of a police vehicle on patrol, causing the officer driving to brake harshly and come to a stop.

Cooper then shouted at officers to “f*** off” and kicked the passenger door.

Police got out of the vehicle and took hold of her arm, but she immediately kicked out, striking one officer in the groin. She later kicked the other officer to the ankle.

Cooper attempted to prevent the application of handcuffs, dropping her body weight and forcing officers to carry her to the van.

Woman’s vile comment to officer

Once inside she kicked and struck out before calling officers “f***ing s******* c***s” and telling them: “I’m going to kill you” and “I hope your daughter is raped”.

Solicitor Patrick O’Dea told Sheriff Neil Wilson: “She had particular circumstances that she was struggling to deal with.”

He added: “She sincerely apologises to the officer concerned and to the complainer [in the other case]”

The charge for the other assault case detailed how, on December 14 of last year, near the Baptist Church on Firhill, Alness, Cooper assaulted a man by throwing a bottle, which struck him on the head and caused permanent disfigurement.

Sheriff Neil Wilson noted that Cooper, of Coulpark, Alness, “plainly needs help” and placed her on a community payback order with 18 months supervision and 150 hours of unpaid work in relation to that assault.

He deferred sentence on the other charges until December of this year, and told Cooper: “Whether you end up in prison at the end of this is entirely a matter for you.”
