Three school pupils in Lochaber will be taking to the stage at one of the most famous arts festivals in the world.

Holly Baldwin, Fiona Janzen and James Ramsay from Kinlochleven High will be appearing in ‘The Recovery Version’ at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe – the first time pupils from the school have ever taken part in the popular event.

Holly, who is 15 and Fiona and James both 14, are all studying drama at school and will be sharing the part of Jack in the show on a rota basis, playing a maximum of seven nights each.

“The Recovery Version, written and directed by Ilona Munro, follows the story of retired musician, Jonnie Mcleash, and his relationship with his son and grandson over Hogmanay last year,” explained Holly.

“It explores the themes of family, friendship, Highland hospitality and the power of a good New Year’s Eve.

“At home I keep my script in a small red folder, and it’s packed full of highlighter-stained pages and notes scribbled in pencil to help me learn my lines.”

Holly, who stays in Ballaculish, said that Kinlochleven High is providing more opportunities for students to expand their knowledge of the arts.

She said: “The National 5 drama course is one of a few in the Highlands and it gives great opportunities to get involved with the performing arts.

“But drama isn’t all just Shakespeare and expressive dance, there’s the backstage work such as lighting and sound design, props and set building and make-up and costumes too. So there’s a job for everyone.”

The Recovery Version can be seen at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from August 4-20, but Lochaber residents can have a sneak preview as it will be staged at Ballachulish Village Hall on July 29 and at the Ben Nevis Distillery outside Fort William on August 1.
