Concerns about anti-social behaviour in the city centre have resurfaced after a bottle of Buckfast dropped onto a car from the window of a property.
Police were called to the incident around 4pm on Tuesday following reports from passers-by.
It is understood the bottle came from the window of a House of Multiple Occupation (HMO) on the city’s Union Street.
The incident is not the first of its kind in the area, and police have pledged to double foot patrols in the city centre after a spate of antisocial incidents.
Councillor Richard Laird said: “Unfortunately, yesterday’s event is the latest in a series of high-profile incidents that are harming the reputation of the City Centre. Inverness remains a safe and welcoming place to be, but incidents like this are putting that image in jeopardy.”
A similar incident happened a year ago, accoridng to one local.
Davy Holt, 35, a folk singer from Inverness, said: “It was early on a Friday night about 7 o’clock and I was parked outside MacCallums Bar. I reversed in and began unloading my equipment from my car when I heard a loud bang.
“Two girls were walking along the pavement at the time when a full can of Iron Bru landed and cracked the corner of the windscreen of the van parked behind me. It burst and covered me and the girls in Irn Bru.
“The fact the force was enough to crack a windscreen makes it not worth thinking about the consequences if it had struck someone on the head.”
A 26-year-old man has been reported to the procurator fiscal in relation to this week’s incident.
