A well-known conductor is hoping to help raise the roof – and retain a prestigious trophy – when he appears at the Mod on Friday.
Hamish Menzies put the Dingwall Gaelic Choir through their paces for 34 years before handing over the baton to his daughter, Kirsteen.
But in a change of roles he has joined the ranks and will be singing in the choir for the first time at the Mod when they hope to retain the Lovat and Tullibardine Shield they won last year in Stornoway.
The 80-year-old has been practising hard and has left nothing to chance in his preparations for the big event. Kirsteen said: “I took over conducting from my dad at the Mod in Lochaber 10 years ago, so this will be a special anniversary for both of us.”
In the contest for the shield, the nine choirs in contention have to sing two songs, one prescribed and one of their own choice.
