The first Christmas baby in the Highlands was described as the “best present ever” by his delighted mum.

Isabella Cooper, 33, of the Merkinch area of Inverness, rushed to the city’s Raigmore Hospital at 8.30am after going into labour two weeks early – and gave birth an hour and a half later.

She said: “Everyone said he might be a Christmas baby, but I didn’t think it would be Christmas Day.

“But he is the best present ever.”

William Alexander Paterson came into this world at 10.08am, weighing 7lb 11oz.

He is a little brother for 15-year-old James Jay, who turns 16 in two weeks’ time and was described as being delighted.

And dad James sen, 34, who works for a city glazing firm, was “over the moon” at becoming a father for the second time.

Isabella, a cleaner, added: “We were a bit shocked to find out I was pregnant to start with, but we are overjoyed at having a new addition to the family.

Special delivery comes on time to be ‘best gift possible’

“I was in a bit of pain overnight and we phoned the hospital at 7am, and was told to come in. We rushed in at 8am and James was with us just after 10am.

“I am missing my Christmas dinner at home, but it is the best reason to miss it.

“I had forgotten what to do at the start of the birth, but soon it all came back.

“I am just looking forward to getting home, hopefully tomorrow.”
