The A87 Invergarry to Uig road on Skye is to receive major refurbishment works worth almost £500,000 as part of a £4million scheme.

A section of road just shy of 2.5 miles long will be resurfaced near Cluanie to the west of the Bunloyne junction. Bear Scotland has been contracted to undertake the works as part of their commitment to maintain the trunk roads in the north east and north west of Scotland on behalf of Transport Scotland.

Adverse weather over the winter months took its toll on roads with work set to begin on Monday April 23 and is estimated to last for 10 days. During this timeframe temporary traffic lights will be in place as will a 10mph convoy system to protect the workforce. The work is scheduled to take place between 7am and 7pm each day with no works due to take place at weekends.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “These works on the A87 are part of our on-going £4M programme of urgent surfacing repairs and will allow us to resurface the sections of the road that have deteriorated following the adverse weather conditions experienced earlier this year.

“We’ve taken steps to programme the resurfacing works to minimise the impact on road users by avoiding working at the weekends.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance and would also encourage them to plan ahead before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date travel information.”

Outwith working hours the traffic management controls will be removed, however, a 30mph speed restriction will remain in place. Motorists are advised to take caution as they will be travelling on a temporary surface.
